Sleeve / Swap / Store on Cards

The trio shape

Every Cards ranking on Collectrio assigns each of three printings a different verb. Sleeve beats Swap and Store. Swap beats Store. Store loses both. Those three pairwise results update Elo for the active format lens — Binder, Playable, or Value. The recipe lives on /methodology. Unlock flow lives on /how-rankings-work. The live board is /cards/rankings once you have contributed a trio from / or /cards.

You cannot Sleeve all three names. The forced spread is the product. Collectrio needs contrast so chase separates from depth. If your instinct is to flatter every printing, you will hate Store — and the board will stay mushy. Embrace the bottom rung.

Abstract proxies only: letter tiles, set, number, rarity chip. No official art. Identify carefully before you Sleeve a lookalike printing you did not mean to rank.

Sleeve in practice

Sleeve means you would hold this in the binder long-term relative to these two peers — protect it, maybe grade it, refuse easy breaks. On Binder lens that maps to chase and vintage hierarchy. On Value it still means strongest relative hold, but now inside a liquidity conversation. On Playable it can mean “this stays in the list forever,” which is a different kind of permanence.

Overusing Sleeve on mid Illustration art teaches the board the wrong top. Save Sleeve for the real top of the trio in front of you. If two names feel tied for Sleeve, pick the one you would actually refuse to mail first; gut refusal is useful signal.

Sleeve is not a promise you will never Swap. It is a statement about this comparison. Next week a hotter SIR can demote today’s Sleeve to Swap in a new trio. Elo expects new votes when your binder story changes.

Swap in practice

Swap is the fair middle — you would move the printing for something of similar strength on this lens. Package culture lives here. When you draft give/get on /cards/calculator, you are usually living in Swap-shaped thinking even if one line is a painful Sleeve release.

Value lens plus honest Swap votes sculpt liquidity. If you never Swap anything on Value, the board cannot learn what actually moves. Binder can stay sticky; Value should not be a second Binder cosplay. Lens discipline: /guides/how-lenses-work and /guides/lens-conflicts.

Talking with partners, prefer “I’d Swap this on Value for those Core lines” over vague “fair trade” adjectives. Share the calculator URL so modifiers stay visible — /guides/how-calculator-works.

Store in practice

Store means lower priority: you would rather free the slot than keep fighting for binder space with this printing against these peers. It is box cleanup, not trash talk. Read /guides/box-cleanup-philosophy before you weaponize the word in Discord.

Honest Store votes under real chase pieces sharpen ladders. Mid art, damaged playables you will not sleeve, and duplicate non-chase ultras often belong here on Binder. On Playable, Store a non-list pretty card even if Binder nostalgia whispers otherwise — do not leak Binder feelings into Playable trios.

Store does not delete the printing from Collectrio. It loses this comparison. The same name can Sleeve later against weaker peers or on another lens.

• Store — box / bulk priority loss; cleanup, not insult.

Lens changes the flavor of each verb

Same three verbs, different question. Sleeve on Playable is list permanence; Sleeve on Binder is display permanence; Sleeve on Value is “I would still hold this even when liquidity is the topic.” Swap on Value is package fuel; Swap on Binder is “I would break this for peer chase.” Store on Value often marks illiquid mid; Store on Binder marks “not binder-worthy vs these.”

Building trios that teach

Good teaching trios pit peers: three modern chase pieces; vintage vs two modern SIRs you might actually choose between; list staple vs two binders pets on Playable. Bad trios pit Base icons against random energy — the Store is automatic and the Elo update is boring.

Aim for at least one trio per session where Store is a name you truly would box. Performative cynicism — Storing everything — is as useless as flattery. Starter session plan: /guides/starter-cards-binder.

From verbs to packages

After unlock, skim /cards/rankings. Note which names you keep Sleeving in your head. When a real Swap appears, switch to Value if fairness matters, load /cards/calculator, set NM / LP / MP honestly, and adjust lines. Uneven chase vs depth: /guides/calculator-uneven-packages. If Binder conviction says no but Value says fair, refuse. Verbs describe priority; they do not confiscate your binder rules. Trend bumps should not force panic Swaps — /guides/trend-without-noise.

Common mistakes

Trying to Sleeve two names (invalid). Storing out of spite after a bad Discord thread. Using Store on Playable staples because you dislike the art. Importing GO Transfer flame language into Cards chats. Mixing a GO shiny into a Cards fairness story — /guides/two-boards-never-mix.

Treating verbs as dollar minting — /guides/why-not-a-price-list. Ignoring condition when the Swap is physical. Ranking the wrong printing because proxies are abstract — always check set and number text.

A week of verb practice

Day one: five Binder trios across your actual chase. Day three: three Value trios including names you might package. Day five: one Playable trio if you play. Day seven: one calculator draft you might send. Re-read this guide only if your Store votes still feel like insults — they should feel like storage.
