How lenses work on Collectrio

Each Collectrio board has three format lenses. Same names can rank differently because the comparable set and the question change — not because of a cosmetic skin on the same Elo.

Lens equals question plus eligible set

Methodology on /methodology states it plainly: a lens is not a cosmetic Elo bump. It rebuilds who belongs on the board and how seeds lean. If a lens would have fewer than six names, Collectrio falls back to the full catalog for that product so a trio is still possible. A name can be in the catalog and still show Off board on a lens it does not belong to — intentional, not a glitch.

You pick one lens per trio. Rankings store with that lens. Switching lenses rebuilds the board for that question. Cards and GO never share lenses or boards — /guides/two-boards-never-mix.

Practical conflict handling when two lenses disagree hard: /guides/lens-conflicts. Reading Off board and tiers: /guides/reading-the-board.

Cards — Binder

Binder is chase, vintage, and collection copies you would protect in a binder. Use it for display hierarchy, grade intent, and nostalgia holds. SIR and alt ladders live here emotionally — /guides/cards-chase-ladder. Sleeve votes on Binder teach forever-hold strength relative to peers.

Bulk energy and pure play foils without binder demand often sit Off board or low — correct. Do not drag them into Binder just to farm easy Store votes; that teaches noise.

Starter path for binder-first collectors: /guides/starter-cards-binder. Verbs: /guides/sleeve-swap-store.

Cards — Playable

Playable is usefulness in actual decks and formats. List staples climb; pretty Illustration Rares without play fall. Use Playable when the trade is for the list, not the binder wall.

Mixing Binder pride into Playable trios pollutes utility signal — a common lens leak. If art is the point, switch to Binder. If dollars-ish Swap pressure is the point, switch to Value, remembering Value is still not a price list — /guides/why-not-a-price-list.

Cards — Value

Value is relative Sleeve / Swap strength from crowd ranks — still not marketplace dollars. Use it for package fairness on /cards/calculator. Liquidity reading sits here in the conviction/liquidity framework — /guides/ranking-frameworks.

When Binder Elite and Value Mid diverge, you are looking at binder premium. Sequence hold clearance on Binder before fairness math on Value — /guides/lens-conflicts.

  • Binder — hold / chase / vintage display.
  • Playable — deck and format utility.
  • Value — Swap pressure and package math (not dollars).

GO — Dex

Dex covers living dex, shinies, regionals, and form collecting. Trophy logic starts here. Train on Dex often means “this stays for the collection story,” not always “power up for raids.” Starter: /guides/starter-go-dex.

Cleanup Transfers on Dex should still peek Trade bait when the copy is shiny — /guides/box-cleanup-philosophy, /guides/train-trade-transfer.

GO — Raids

Raids is raid and PvE / battle invest. Attackers and meta pieces climb. Trophy shinies without raid chops fall relative to investors. Use Raids when dust and team slots are the scarce resource.

Do not justify a trophy shiny special trade with Raids ranks alone — use Dex for trophies and Trade bait for move pressure. Tax overlays: /guides/go-special-trade-tax.

GO — Trade bait

Trade bait is what people want to receive in trades — not what you wish would move. Mirror shinies, regionals, and legendaries often lead. Use it for /go/calculator fairness and for cleanup peeks before Transfer.

First careful trade walkthrough: /guides/first-go-trade. Uneven packages: /guides/calculator-uneven-packages.

  • Dex — collection holes and trophies.
  • Raids — invest for battles.
  • Trade bait — receive-side desire for packages.

Conflicts, trend, and practice

Binder ≠ Value and Dex ≠ Trade bait regularly. Pick by decision sentence. Sequence hold lenses before fairness lenses. Never average two Elo boards into a fake blended score.

Trend differs per lens because trios differ per lens — /guides/trend-without-noise. Practice: rank the same three Cards names once on Binder and once on Value; repeat on GO with Dex vs Trade bait. Note reordering. That exercise beats memorizing definitions.

Calculators follow the lens context you package under — /guides/how-calculator-works. Hub: /guides. Recipe: /methodology.

Session patterns that lock good lens habits

Pattern A — hold then fair: Binder or Dex trio for clearance, then Value or Trade bait calculator draft. Never reverse that order when emotion is loud. Pattern B — utility night: Playable or Raids only, ignore chase art, package only if the deal is list or invest.

Pattern C — cleanup night: pick the lens matching why space hurts, force honest Store or Transfer bottoms, then peek the liquidity lens before releasing shiny or chase-adjacent copies. /guides/box-cleanup-philosophy.

Pattern D — conflict study: same three names, two lenses, two submissions, notebook of reorderings. Do this monthly on Cards and GO so lens fights stop feeling like bugs. /guides/lens-conflicts.

When teaching a friend, do not start with all six lenses. Start with Binder or Dex only until unlock and board reading click — /guides/starter-cards-binder, /guides/starter-go-dex — then introduce fairness lenses as a second week skill.

  • Hold lens before fairness lens when attached.
  • Utility nights stay on Playable / Raids.
  • Teach one lens family per week to newcomers.
