Read board trend without chasing every bump

What trend measures

Per /methodology, Trend is the public number now minus the number computed from rankings older than seven days. If nobody ranked that name this week, trend is 0. It is not TCGPlayer movement, not Niantic news, not Discord volume. Abstract proxies on the site do not scrape charts.

Because K in Elo is meaningful, a surprising trio moves names more than a predictable one. A few Sleeve-heavy Binder trios can bump a SIR without a real liquidity regime change. Reading the board columns: /guides/reading-the-board.

Sample size humility

Collectrio grows with contributions; it does not invent live ranking counts to look busy. Early or quiet names whip harder. Treat large trend on low-attention Fringe names as fragile. Treat modest trend on Elite names with repeated trios as slightly more trustworthy — still not destiny.

If you care about a name, unlock and rank an honest trio yourself on /cards or /go instead of spectating bumps. Your vote is signal; refreshing the trend column is not a strategy.

Cards: bump ≠ sell-the-binder

A Binder trend up on a modern SIR often means collectors reaffirmed Sleeve this week. That can coexist with flat Value trend. Check both lenses before you Swap a forever hold. Chase context: /guides/cards-chase-ladder. Lens conflicts: /guides/lens-conflicts.

Down trend on Value for a name you need in a package may mean cheaper Swap pressure — opportunity if your conviction was already low. Down trend on Binder for your childhood chase is usually noise relative to nostalgia; frameworks: /guides/ranking-frameworks.

• Cross-check tier cliffs — trend inside Fringe is weaker signal.

GO: bump ≠ burn-the-special

Trade bait spikes after community days or raid hours are common. Special-trade budgets should not auto-follow spikes. Tax and friction: /guides/go-special-trade-tax. Ask whether Dex or Raids moved too — a Dex-only spike is collection chatter, not invest advice.

Lucky hopes plus trend FOMO create bad first trades. Walk through /guides/first-go-trade slowly. Registration dust does not refund because trend looked green.

A calm reading ritual

Once per session after unlock: note Elite names with |trend| above a threshold you choose, flip the other relevant lens, and see if the bump survives. If it dies on the second lens, label it local fashion. If it survives on liquidity and conviction lenses, label it real movement — still wait one more session if the decision is irreversible.

Irreversible means: shipping cardboard, burning a special slot, Transferring a one-copy shiny. Reversible means: drafting a calculator package and sleeping on it. Prefer reversible moves while trend is hot.

Do not renegotiate every hour of trend flicker. Agree a window: “numbers as of tonight’s link.” Collectrio is not a high-frequency trading desk.

Noise patterns to ignore

Single-trio spikes on obscure printings. Oscillation around zero across days. Trend on Off board names you should not be comparing on this lens. Cross-board folklore (“this GO shiny tracks that SIR”) — boards never mix: /guides/two-boards-never-mix.

When to respect a bump

Respect sustained multi-day movement on Elite liquidity lenses while your own trios agree with the direction. Respect aligned Binder and Value moves on Cards, or aligned Dex and Trade bait moves on GO. Then still apply taxes, condition, and personal conviction.

Building a personal trend policy

Write a one-page policy for yourself: irreversible moves require second-lens confirmation and a night of sleep when |trend| exceeds a threshold you choose on Elite names. Reversible calculator drafts can follow trend the same day. Special-trade GO moves always count as irreversible even if the calculator is reversible in theory — the special slot is not.

Policy exception: if you already planned to Store or Transfer a name for storage reasons unrelated to trend, a downtrend does not obligate you to keep it, and an uptrend does not obligate you to cancel cleanup. Storage pressure outranks fashion — /guides/box-cleanup-philosophy.

Review the policy monthly. If you keep breaking it, the threshold is wrong or you are not actually conviction-led — fix the policy, not the board.

Partner agreements about bumps

Write one sentence into your trade template: “Collectrio trend bumps do not reopen an agreed share link for twenty-four hours unless both sides consent.” That sentence kills most FOMO renegotiations.
